Pumpkin pie spice makes its way into many recipes, including several that have nothing to do with pumpkin. It's readily available at grocery stores pre-mixed in the spice aisle, but with the popularity of this flavor mix, sometimes you find the shelf bare, or maybe you're in the middle of a recipe and just realized that you've run out.
There is no plant called "pumpkin spice", it's merely a combination of a few warm and common spices that you likely already have. Use this ratio of spices to replace every
1 teaspoon of Pumpkin Pie Spice:
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp (scant) nutmeg
1/8 tsp cloves
